How to make pie, the ghetto fabulous edition

Hubby requested a pie for christmas. How can I resist hubby when he looks like this?
So, I'm like: okay, I know how to make a pie.

But wait--he has no pie sheet to roll out the crust. But, I'm smart! So I cover our counter in saran wrap! (Great idea btw--EASY clean up!!)
And then I go to actually flatten my pie crust. And. There. Is. No. Rolling Pin. I know I own a rolling pin. But for the life of me, I can't find it anywhere. (Probably at my mothers house?) And of course, hubby doesn't have one. (would any acceptable, rugged man, he asks, be caught dead with a desert making device? I mean, that can't even be remotely used for making either bacon, or chili, he insists--and therefore is somehow a nonessential kitchen necessity)
So after 5 harrowing seconds of freaking out--I grab the nearest round object and proceed to flower it and make my pie. Yup, I used a drinking cup. And you know, it worked pretty well for not being a rolling pin.
How ghetto fabulous! (In other news, hubby liked the pie. He ate it before I remembered to take a picture of the finished deal. Sorry! :P)

And thats how you make a pie crust without a rolling pin. :D

Wedding Photos!

My lovely wedding photos came in. I love them. We are in the process of getting a ton of them printed off and mailed out to those who did not get to attend our wedding.
This day was one of the best of my life--I am so in love with this man. I will never forget the wonder and beauty of our love that God has blessed us with!
Thank you Beth for being my photographer and making my day so special!

Do you have "Small" Breasts?

Do you have small breasts? Does your shirt gap horribly when you bend over because it was made for a person of generous cleavage size? Do you always have to remember to put your hand on your collar bone so you don't flash everyone when you pick up your pen?

If any (or all) of the above is true, this tutorial is for you!

Clothes these days are made from a mold. I find, for myself, that means sometimes my shirt may fit in the waist department but be way to big in the breast area. Moving down in size doesn't help, because then the shirt fails to fit me in the hips or belly, because I'm pear shaped. This means I am a size 6-8 in my upper body and a size 10-12 in my hips. Thus, a size 10 dress is super large in the chest area but a size 6, while fitting my upper body, generally only fits one thigh in its slender skirt portion.

So, obviously, I can't walk about with half my butt hanging out (well, some people do...but I'll address that later) so I buy the "larger" size and usually end up having breast issues.

This problem can be fixed! When the bodice is too big, I generally just add a little pleat right in the center. Make sure its in the center so it does not look uneven!

Sometimes, the gap can be caused by the arm holes being to large and not fitted to your waist. Even when you fix the top, the arms can still cause your shirt to gap. For this, just pin and sew the underarms right under the lowest part of your arm to make the arm space smaller.

These are just two ways to fix this annoying issue!! I'm sure there are many more. I'm just happy I know how to solve the problem so I can wear my pretty shirt without worry or without an annoying undershirt!

Happy (and modest) shopping!

Tea Dress Tutorial

I really love my new dress! Even if you don't know anything about sewing, you can make this! It is super easy!

You Will Need

  • A sheer or lightweight fabric (I bought 3 yards and had some left over)
  • Thin Elastic (4mm is what I used)
  • Lace
  • Sewing Machine
STEP ONE
Cut two rectangles. They should be from top to bottom as long as you want the dress, and from side to side 4.5 inches larger then your hips.
STEP TWO
Sew up the sides, leaving 9 inches from the top for your arms.
STEP THREE
Sew shoulders (red part) leaving 15 inches in the center for your neck (and head) to go through.
STEP FOUR
Cut the neck. I just did a basic scoop.
STEP FIVE
This is when I french seamed the neck, arms, and hem. Fold your seam over, sew, and then fold it over again (encasing the raw edge) and sew again.
STEP SIX
This is where you add the waist. Put your "sack" on and mark where you want your waist to cinch. I sewed three lines of elastic. You pull the elastic as you sew it on. You can also use a casing for the elastic if wanted, or use elastic thread in your bobbin. You want the middle piece of elastic to be where your waist mark is. Then sew one above and one below!
STEP SEVEN
Finishing touches. I added a little pleat to the back right in the middle, and also pleated the shoulders, and added some lace and a flower to the top.
 WEAR
I plan on making many more of these! I can think of a bunch of cool embellishing ideas...

Merry Christmas!

Happy Birthday, Jesus! Praise be to God that He sent His son to Earth.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
Luke 2:12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
I made my husband a knitted hat for Christmas this year.
Hope your day is blessed. Remember that God loves you, no matter where you are or what you've done.

Everyone is a Bunny

My husband bought me the silliest Christmas present! (And he gave it to me early too!) Yay, Christmas Eve!
Let me explain. Our house is freezing! I'm always complaining of being cold. We don't have a heat pump (our house was designed to use one) and thus we use a wood stove and various portable electric heaters that are strategically placed around the house. Since you can't leave an electric heater (think handheld or dorm room size) on while you are gone, our house gets really cold when we are at work/dating/shopping--so when I get home I complain and usually wear three layers of clothing (yeah, attractive, right?)
So hubby bought me this super adorable warm bunny suit. Its so silly, and warm and toasty and wonderful. I've been living in it ever since, much to his amusement.

Tea Dress

Since I'm home with hubby for the week I've had lots of fun getting caught up on all my creative endeavors. Today I made this dress!
This is a super easy elastic waist dress. You don't even have to make sleeves! Of course, I'll be putting out a tutorial so you can make your own! It only took me 20 minutes.
What are you guys doing with your Christmas break?
